PROGRAM

Registration for 2026-2027 COMING SOON!

This training program prepares new skaters for a successful transition into the Calgary Roller Derby league.

This program ensures you can safely skate as a league member and is an essential element to be eligible to be drafted to play on one of our house teams.

Curious about the course content? Check out WFTDA’s “This is Roller Derby” beginner curriculum, which our training is based on: Click here for package

Classes are typically held on Sundays from the start of October through to the end of November from 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM at the West Hillhurst Community Association (1940 6 Ave NW), except for dates that land on long weekends.

Can’t make the first class? That’s OK! There will be time to catch up.You will need your own gear for the program and after you sign up, valid skater insurance through WFTDI Canada insurance.

Want to sign up? Fill out the interest form below to be contacted with the most up to date information!

READY
TO
ROLL?

WHO
IS THIS FOR?

Aspiring skaters 18+. Our teams are exclusively open to women and anyone of a marginalized gender, and our referee crew is open to all genders. No skating or sports experience necessary—but it doesn’t hurt. (Under 18? Check out our Calgary Junior Roller Derby.)

WHAT
DO I BRING?

All the gear. Quad roller skates, helmet, mouth guard, elbow pads, wrist guards, knee pads. Wear clothes you’re comfy working out in and bring running shoes, too. We’ve got some trial gear available, but it’s in limited supply, so please reach out ahead to check. Visit Nerd Skates and they’ll get you set when you’re ready for your own gear. They no longer sell rookie-specific packages, but they are thinking of getting a promo sale going for the fall, so check out their website or go in and see what they got! They are super lovely and very friendly. If you don’t want to buy brand new, there is a used buy and sell Facebook Group Page called: Roller Derby Gear Buy and Sell (Alberta-ish).
